Chronic Pain Clinic

How acupuncture helped me with my pregnancy

I would like to share with you some photos of my son Andrew John Mannix, born on the 3rd of November 2011. Weighing in at 3 kilograms, this little bundle of joy has changed our lives for the better. We are blessed to have him in our lives.

We had a difficult time trying to fall pregnant and a problematic pregnancy, involving early threatened miscarriage, anemia, gestational diabetes and pregnancy induced hypertension. We used acupuncture to help us fall pregnant, to stop bleeding during the first trimester, manage side effects eg morning sickness, oedema, backpain and for pain management.

I had an 8 hour labour and only used the gas as pain relief. My partner Beau gave me regular acupuncture treatments for the pre birth and personally I felt that it did make a big difference to the efficiency of the labour. He also used acupressure on my lower back during the labour and this made a big difference to the pain relief of the contractions.  This is our first child and we are both over the moon to meet our little man. As a therapist , I am grateful that I went through this experience because I now have more empathy and understanding of what my clients are going through and am able to help them.

.

We had our baby at The Mater Mothers Hospital and their service was amazing and the follow up care is greatly appreciated.

Please enjoy the video and leave some comments if you feel so inspired.

I am on maternity leave until March 2012, however Beau Mannix is filling in for me while I am away.

Warmest regards

Sandie Leong
